Welcome to the Autocon FAQ, which will hopefully answer a few questions about the Autocon group. If you have a question that isn't answered here, please send an email to autocon-owner@yahoogroups.com. It is recommended that you read the whole FAQ as it will make your Autocon experience easier. Some of the points below may seem harsh, but they aren’t meant to be, they are just guidelines designed to help. :) |
1. What is a FAQ? FAQ stands for Frequently Asked Questions. 2. What is Autocon? Autocon is a discussion group hosted by Yahoo Groups. At Autocon we discuss all things related to Transformers in a nice, friendly manner. Autocon also functions as the mailing list for Vari-Quest. 3. How does Autocon work? Autocon is an email group like any newsgroup/discussion group: Members send emails to all the other group members. 4. How do I join? Joining is pretty easy, just send an email to autocon-subscribe@yahoogroups.com or alternatively, go to Autocon and subscribe there. 5. Should I subscribe by email or through the website? It is highly recommended that you join through the Yahoo Groups website and choose the ‘no email’ option so that you can read from the website only the threads that interest you. Autocon can receive a lot of posts in a day so reading the posts from the website makes life easier, but choose whichever option you prefer. Some members who have subscribed by email may not be able to access the pictures, polls, files and other sections that are hosted by Yahoo Groups which is another reason to join up at the website. However, try out the different options and see which you prefer. Vari-Quest readers use the 'special notices' function, where they only revcieve the Vari-Quest Mailer (for the record, the group owner uses the 'daily digest' format, delivered to his regular e-mail). 6. Why does my membership have to be approved? Simply because we want Autocon to be a nice place to be and if we didn’t pre-approve all members, the group would be open to spammers and trolls. 7. So anyone can join? Yes and no. The vast majority of applications get approved, but we will not approve anyone who we feel may negatively affect the friendly atmosphere of Autocon. Any person who applies for membership who has a history of posting abusive messages (flames) or cannot stay on-topic on any other group will not be approved for membership. If your application is rejected, this will be why. You are welcome to ask us to reconsider our decision, as we aren’t monsters and we may have made a mistake. :) Most people find it is easier to join if you already know someone on the group. Have them recommend you to the autocon Moderator. 8. How do I leave Autocon? Send a blank email to autocon-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com or simply go to the Yahoo Groups website and unsubscribe from there. 9. Who is in charge of Autocon? Fred's Workshop is the owner. Maz and Morg founded the group on 24th of August 2001. Autocon is in-part the descendent of the Diaclone group. The moderators are Maz and Necrotron. 10. What subjects are acceptable on Autocon? Anything about, or relating to Transformers and pre-Transformers (Diaclone, Micro Change, Beetras, Dorvack, etc). If you feel that your message will be off-topic then please don’t post it (marking a post off-topic or OT, does not make it right). 11. Can I post for sale or wanted lists on Autocon? Yes, but in moderation. If you are downsizing your collection or are selling items that are hard to find then feel free. However, if you are a dealer then please don’t post for sale lists to the group unless it fits the above statement. Wanted lists are welcome, but again, only in moderation: posting your wants list once a week is not going to get you the items you need any faster than posting it once a month. Any members who seem to be using Autocon purely to expand their collections (ie members who only post FS/wanted lists) may be removed from the group. 12. If I think that someone is being an idiot can I flame him or her? No. If you have a problem with the way a member conducts themselves on the group, then please talk to them calmly about it off the group or email us about it and we will be happy to discuss the matter with you. If a member is repeatedly problematic then their posts will be moderated (approved before being sent to the group) or the member will be removed. 13. Are attachments allowed? No. This is for 2 reasons: 1. Prevention of viruses being spread to the group. 2. Some group members will be reading by email and don’t want to sit around waiting for an attachment to download that may be of no interest to them. If you have a file that you wish to share with the group, please upload it to the files section of the website. 14. I am only interested in the Vari-Quest mailer, not Autocon. What do I do? Not a problem, just tell us that when you subscribe, and we can set you to the 'special notices' function, which is the Vari-Quest Mailer. 15. Do you have any advice for me as a new member?
