How many transformers were made into brave toys? Thread started on: May 22nd, 2004, 08:50am: Anybody know how many Takara transformers were changed to be in the brave line? And was it an upgrade or a downgrade?

Re: How many Transformers were made into Brave toys Reply #1 on: May 23rd, 2004, 09:41am Well now, let's see; this is from the top of my head, so it shouldn't surprise me if I forgot some. Note that all were at least recolored from their TF incarnations:
* Sixshot - Slightly remolded. (Pics) Molds intended for reuse (i.e. the anime characters were based on these toys, but were never released):
* The Dinobots - As 5 evil-doers! AKA "The Fighbird Guy" on the Brave Mailing List - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bravemailinglist/Fighbird Moderator

Re: How many Transformers were made into Brave toys Reply #3 on: May 23rd, 2004, 3:01pm When I mean up or down grade, I am responding to what I have read. Some writers make the Brave series seem like a dumbed down version of Transformers for little kids. I have the Dai Atlas Sonokong, and am happy with it. I was just wondering if there was any difference between them and the Transformers, besides color and price! Me personally, going from DX Brave toys to original transformers had been dissappointing. I have the lion head guy from the Star Saber series, and the lion head guy from the Brave is more creative and moves! It also was a third of the cost of the Transformer! Re: How many Transformers were made into Brave toys Reply #4 on: May 23rd, 2004, 3:18pm Thought I'd expand a little bit on this... * Sixshot - Slightly remolded. Called "Shadow Maru" in Japan and "Shadow Z" in Korea. Was a hero robot in Brave Police J-Decker. Yeah, the head, beast head, chest, breast wings, and shoulders were all changed IIRC (possibly the main wings too; not sure off the top of my head). He's purple (I think, at least; I'm colorblind; could be blue?) and he comes with a bunch of extra weapons in addition to Six Shot's two guns: a badge, a two-peice ninja sword, a pistol, and two throwing stars. Some of his transformations are actually slightly different than Six Shot's. i.e. he can do all of Six Shot's transformations, but his official car mode is a bit different, and so are one or two of his other modes. Also, his beast mode is that of a police hound. Gun mode isn't documented in the instructions, but he does use it in the series eventually IIRC. Also, in the series, there was another very similar robot called Kagerou. He wasn't around for long, though and never got a toy. * Deathsaurus - With only one of the Breastmasters. Called "Red Geist." From Brave Of Legend Dagarn. In a red and black color scheme. Missing the Eagle Beaster. The toy looks quite a bit different from the TV character. * 2 Micromaster Bases - Can't remember which ones, or if there were more, but they lacked the MM AFAIR. From Brave Police J-Decker. Was it just two? I was under the impression that all four were released, but I could be wrong. Not only did they lack Micromasters, but they also came with little PVC-like figures of the Brave Police. * Dai Atlus - With Micromaster. In a black and white deco. Called "Goryu" and from Brave Express Might Gaine. He's missing the handle for his shield, unfortunately. In the series, the Micromaster never transforms into robot mode and it drives into Goryu to become the cockpit. Again, looks more than a bit different from the TV character. * Sonic Bomber - With Micromaster. "Hiryu" from Brave Express Might Gaine. In a red color scheme. Like Goryu, car is used as a cockpit. Can't do that at all with the toy, though... * Sky Garry - With Micromaster. "Death Garrygun" from Brave of Gold Goldran. Slight remold; the Micromaster trailers' launchers are gone. Also, comes with 3 Micromaster trailers instead of just one. Head looks a lot different in the anime, and he's gigantic in the anime too. * Grandus - With Micromaster. "Dagbase" from Brave Command Dagwon. Heavilly remolded all over. * Galaxy Shuttle - Slightly remolded. This toy is remolded in a really neat way. His chest swings around to form a Brave-like chest emblem, he has a new head, he has a companion motorcycle/robot that attaches to his back, and he has a gun extension peice too. Quite an improvement on the original toy. Same basical color scheme. Molds intended for reuse (i.e. the anime characters were based on these toys, but were never released): * The Dinobots - As 5 evil-doers! Just four of them. Grimlock was never an Exkaiser villain. They all look a lot different from their Transformers versions too. Horn Geist, Ptera Geist, Thunder Geist, and one other, all from Exkaiser. * Scorponok - Also for an evil-doer! - Check this link for a kit-bash of him. Zazorigun from Goldran. Fighbird- Moderator

Re: How many Transformers were made into Brave toy Reply #5 on: May 24th, 2004, 04:54am Good ol' Might Gaine. If anyone has the skinny on the toys, it's him; actually had a sneaking suspicion, that he'd elaborate a bit on my post. According to EvaTType01's site, ShadowMaru is mostly purple...have yet to see him in real life myself, but I have Sasha working on that for me! I have only seen two of the MM bases on YJA, so I can't really comment on whether the others were released as well... {Personal Note: Looks like I did pretty OK with it from the top of my head there...}

Yeah, well, in some way you can't really compare them to one another. Cartoon-wise, TF was an early 80s run-of-the-mill low-budget US-produced Saturday morning show - which, in retrospect - clearly was aiming at a young audience (even though they weren't patronizing). Brave shows were (also) run-of-the-mill Saturday morning low-budget(?) shows, but made for the Japanese market in the 90s. From a technical standpoint, Brave shows are much better animated, and have less errors etc. On the other hand, the target audience is pretty much the same demographic, so many of the stories I've seen pretty much reminds me of TF season 1 plot-wise. Quote: Me personally, going from DX Brave toys to original Transformers had been dissappointing. Really? I started with TFs and gradually went into Braves, and I can still enjoy getting a new G1 toy once in a while, even though all my money is spent on Braves at the moment. But I can imagine that it would be a bit of a let-down the other way around... Quote: I have the lion head guy from the Star Saber series, and the lion head guy from the Brave is more creative and moves! Have neither, but would have expected as much myself. Bear in mind, though, that these 2 toys are about 3-4 years apart productionwise. It's like comparing a BW toy with a RiD toy... Quote: It also was a third of the cost of the Transformer! Yeah, that's another appealing factor for collecting Braves IMHO - you get a lot more bang for the buck when buying Braves. Since they're still being made by Sonokong, Braves aren't as rare as G1 TFs, and most TF collectors wouldn't look twice at a Brave 'bot. Lucky us, then. Rancemeister

Re: How many Transformers were made into Brave toy Reply #7 on: Jul 7th, 2004, 11:00am Just checked Sonokong''s website and noticed that the only "Transformer that was repainted as a Brave" toy they are currently producing is Death Garry Gun (Descaligan), the repaint of Sky Garry. Anyone know why all the other toys are being ignored? Logged Fighbird

Re: How many Transformers were made into Brave toy Reply #8 on: Jul 8th, 2004, 02:11am Maybe it's a licensing issue, but that's rather unlikely, since Sonokong also has the license to produce Transformers. Maybe it's because of poor demand. I know that Japanese culture is a bit different in regards to "bad guy" toys. That is why there are generally so few bad guys in Brave - Japanese kids usually only want the heroic 'bots, so the few bad 'bots that were, were either remolded and repainted (only exception is ExKizer's DinoGeist and Fighbird's Draias), or simply just not made at all (Dagwon and GaoGaiGar). I just don't know if that mentality is the same in Korea, though. The funny thing is, that Sonokong did indeed use to make most of them (I have a Sonokong Shadowmaru/Shadow Z coming up shortly), and most people have the Might Gaine TF repaints. It's a real shame that they don't want to make them anymore...I guess that finally makes Sonokong toys really collectable!
