What Is Our Opinion Of Godaikin?

Transformer ancestors, cousins, or something more? The opinions vary. Here's just a few.

I'm planning on writing an article on this for the Pre Transformer Page some time in the future. Godaikins were sold in the early 80'ies and produced by Bandai. The early Godaikins were reissues of the original Chogokin toys (also sold in some form as Shogun Warriors) which were sold in the Japan in the 70'ies. These Chogokins were the first Transforming robot toys (Reideen/Godbird being the first in 1975). A lot of the standard transformations used today appeared for the first time in the Chogokin toyline (animal/robot, vehicle/robot, multiple vehicles/robot, multiple robots/robot etc.) as well as gimmicks never used again. Therefore the play a huge role in the developement of the Transforming robot toys, which for me makes them very related. I'd love to collect them, but I just can't afford them. Maybe when I'm graduated (which shouldn't take too long anymore).

The Godaikin robots were Bandai productions, and due to their style of robot toy these 'bots pretty much fall into the "Super Robot" genre. Bandai and Takara have different styles of design, and the Godaikin-style robots were pretty much the industry standard before the Diaclone toys and before the TRANSFORMERS property brought an awareness of "more realistic" transformation to the popular eye.

I like 'em, but I'd only relate them to the Diaclone/Transformer as "cousins" so to speak.

Of all the Godaikin series, I'd say "Dancougar" was the most TF-like.
