As stated on the previous page, the Combaticons have seen an obscene number of releases. If we count only the american versions, the list looks like:

Type 1: G1, metal-chested units, silver accs (Japan).
Type 2: G1, plastic-chested units, silver accs (Japan).
Type 3: G1, plastic-chested units, gray accs (Macau).
Type 4: G2, plastic-chested units, dark cammo.
Type 5: G2, plastic-chested units, light cammo.
Type 6: RID, remolded weapons, holes, extra pegs.
Type 7: Armada, remolded weaps, urban-camo paint.
Type 8: Universe, remold weaps, desert-camo paint.

HOWEVER...if we count *all* the percieved worldwide variations of this mold, then we end up with a list consisting of at *least* 15 versions. ;-)

And the worldwide list would read:

Type 1: G1, metal-chested units, silver accs (Japan).
Type 2: G1, plastic-chested units, silver accs (Japan).
Type 2: Japan G1, plastic-chested units, silver accs, working launcher (Japan).
Type 3: G1, plastic-chested units, gray accs (Macau).
Type 3: Japan G1, plastic-chested units, gray accs, variant-working launcher (Macau).
Type 3: Japan Battle Gaia recolor.
Type 3: G1 Classics reissue, no rubsign indents-(Macau).
Type 3: Korea G1.5 version.
Type 4: G2, plastic-chested units, dark cammo.
Type 5: G2, plastic-chested units, light cammo.
Type 5: Korea 2-up G2 version.
Type 5: Car-Robots Valdigus.
Type 6: RID, remolded weapons, holes, extra pegs.
Type 7: Armada, remolded weaps, urban-camo paint.
Type 8: Universe, remold weaps, desert-camo paint.

Is that everyone?

---Freds:

I completely forgot about the variant-triggers. Did the silver version feature both kinds (as a transitional) or did one come exclusively with the other?

From my experience, the silver version came with the smooth trigger first, then it came with the button trigger, and the grey version always has the button trigger. It's my guess that the grey versions were the last to be produced, or were the last of the three variant types to come off the presses. The silver and grey versions were probably made concurrently at some point, but my evidence suggests that silver at least started up before grey because grey versions always have the later triggers.

For that matter, did Japan have a metal-chest version as well, or just the silver and gray plastic versions?

I've asked around and nobody has ever found single packed Combatrons or a Japanese D-69 giftset with any metal parts. So although I hate to state absolutely that none exist, that's been my experience so far. Beware of parts swappers who have made metal chested launcher versions. There were never any metal Combatrons released in Japan. (They'll pop up now that I've written that.)

(Korea 1.5 version)

Was it the same manufacturer? I was under the impression that we weren't counting both korean versions the same. But not a prob, I will update.

They were different manufacturers, and the jury's still out on whether or not either were legit. I'd say no because there are no Takara stampings on either set. That means little, though. Anything goes out in the wild east.

New Zealand got a G2 Onslaught without the indent, if I recall...no confirmation, as I haven't talked with the guy since October. I'm that far behind on some e-mails. And that was the only person I'd ever heard/seen anything about it from. Anyone? Anyone?

That's so hard to believe without a scan. Is it possible that anyone outside Hasbro UK was making their own toys from unique molds as late as 1994? I thought the smaller international Hasbros were strictly distributors.

And Blast-Off's nose got rounded off.

Will that be in the Universe one as well? I haven't seen the newest pictures.

I think so. The days of pointy nosed Blast Off/Movor ended with RiD. I never saw a transitional snub nosed Movor in RiD packaging, and I looked.
